The title covers everything from a scheduling operator to a one-person studio. Decide which of these parts you are handing over before you write the job post, because the answer changes the shortlist completely.

Say which channels and how much of each. "Three Instagram posts and four TikToks a week, filmed by us, edited and posted by you" is a job someone can price. "Grow our social media" is a wish, and it attracts applicants who will treat it as one.
Workers set their own expected salary and every profile shows it in USD and IDR before you reach out. The left column is what this role is agreed at by scope. The figures beside it are what the live profiles in this role are asking today.
Video production is what most often moves a number up here, because editing is a second craft stacked on top of the calendar and the workers who have both tend to have a queue. Paid ads are a different role again: if you want someone managing budget, say so in the job post and price it separately.

Ask whether they create or only publish, and make them answer with an example.
A scheduler takes what you give them and puts it out on time. That is a real job, worth paying for when you already have someone filming, editing and writing captions. A creator turns a product, an event or nothing at all into a week of posts. Most job posts ask for the second and pay for the first, then conclude that social media does not work for their business.
Four follow-ups do the rest of the screening.
Which accounts have you run? Handles, not adjectives. Then go and look. Posting that stopped three months after they left is normal and tells you nothing bad. A feed of 40 posts with no comments on any of them tells you plenty.
What did the numbers do while you ran it, and what did you do about it? Follower count is the least useful answer and the one everyone has rehearsed. Better answers sound like: the reels outreached the carousels so we stopped making carousels, or DMs turned into eleven sales calls last quarter. Someone who says engagement went up and cannot say from what to what has not been reading their own reports.
What would you post next week for us? Three concrete ideas, filmable on a phone. It costs them twenty minutes and it separates the shortlist immediately.
Then buy two weeks of real posting before you commit to a year. Two weeks is long enough to see whether they hit the calendar without you chasing, which is the failure mode that actually kills this role. The rest of the ramp looks like the first 30 days with a new hire.
Captions go out under your name and DMs are read by your customers, so this is a writing job with an audience attached. If your accounts are in English, read the unedited writing on the profile and then ask for three captions on a real post of yours. Grammar is the smaller half of it: what you are checking is whether they sound like your brand rather than like a brand. The chart below shows the levels workers in this role report, which is a starting filter rather than the decision. If your audience is Indonesian, the calculation flips entirely and a native writer is an advantage you cannot buy in English.
Most workers are on Jakarta time (UTC+7), 6 to 7 hours ahead of London and 11 to 12 ahead of New York. Scheduling makes the offset irrelevant for posting itself, because a queue does not care who is awake. Two things do care. The first hour after a post is when comments and DMs shape how far it travels, so decide who covers that window while your audience is active and whether that is them at an odd hour or you for twenty minutes. And live moments, a launch or a product going wrong in public, need a named person and a phone number rather than a schedule.

Both exist here and they are different hires at different prices, so ask directly and ask for an example. A scheduler is worth paying for when you already have someone filming and writing. A creator turns a product or an event into a week of posts on their own. Say which one you want in the job post, because a creator hired as a scheduler leaves and a scheduler hired as a creator quietly stops posting.
Ask for handles rather than descriptions, then open them. You are looking for consistency over months, comments and replies rather than silence, and posts that look like they were made for that audience. An account that went quiet after the worker left is normal. Ask what they would do differently with it now, because the answer separates the people who thought about the account from the people who filled a calendar.
Decide this before you hire. Jakarta is UTC+7, so a US evening is early morning locally and a European evening is late night. The first hour after a post is when replies matter most for reach, so agree who owns that window: the worker on a shifted schedule with a premium agreed for it, or you for twenty minutes a day. For anything urgent, agree a named contact and a phone number instead of a schedule.
Many can, usually in CapCut, and it is the skill that most often justifies a higher salary in this role. Ask to see three clips they cut and check the first two seconds of each. If you need higher production work regularly, consider whether you are hiring a social media manager or a video editor, because stacking both into one job at one price is how the calendar slips.
Workers set their own expected salary and you pay them directly, with no agency markup and no take-rate. Scheduling and community work on one or two channels is commonly agreed between $250 and $450 a month, planning and creating across two to four channels between $450 and $750, and owning a channel including video between $700 and $1,100. Part-time arrangements commonly run $5 to $10 an hour. The module above counts the live asks in this role and shows the current median.
Some can, but treat it as a separate role you are adding rather than a bonus you are getting. Organic content and paid media are different skills, and someone spending your budget should be judged on cost per result, not on post frequency. If you want both, say so in the job post, pay for both, and look for someone who volunteers numbers about spend without being asked.
You should, always. Keep the accounts and the ad account in your own business manager and grant access rather than handing over passwords, so removing access takes one click when the role changes. Use a scheduling tool with proper seats for the same reason. This is the single most common avoidable mess in this role, and it costs nothing to get right on day one.
You hire directly. Browsing profiles and reading applications is free. Messaging is the only paid feature: $49 a month, flat, with 75 new contacts a month, cancel anytime, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. There is no cut of the salary and the working relationship is yours.
Wise is the usual sending rail, at about 1 percent and often minutes to arrive; Payoneer is the usual receiving option at about 2 percent. Avoid international wires for monthly salaries, which can cost $70 to $100 per transfer. Keep any ad budget on your own card rather than reimbursing the worker, which keeps the spend and the salary as two separate conversations.
Profiles carry a trust tier: New, Verified, or ID-Verified, where the worker has confirmed their identity against their government ID (KTP). The tier is shown on every profile and in search, so you can see it before you reach out.
Browse workers free, then subscribe only when you want to message them. Cancel after you hire.
